What is Delta-8 and Does it Get You High?

Delta-8 has become popular because of its similarity to Delta-9 - the main compound in cannabis - causing euphoria, happiness, sedation, symptom relief, and much more.

Many people enjoy the high from traditional marijuana, otherwise known as Delta-9 THC, dear mary jane, but there are also those of us that can be a bit sensitive to it.

Some people enjoy the "high" feeling but want a less intensity, or to just like to take the edge off. Delta-8 users get that vibe, and some have said it's the first time they have slept through the night without a prescription. Other people say it helps with their anxiety and overwhelm that 2020 brought on.

The issue with Delta-8 isn't about the "high" though, it's about regulation and where it is sourced from; how its processed and tested; and how it's sold. Our health is so valuable and we have to consider the source of what we consume more than ever. Delta-8 is unique, and quite the gift of nature. The best kind is extracted from organically grown hemp.

What to Know Before Buying Delta-8

Nearly all delta-8 THC products are sold outside of state-licensed and state-regulated cannabis industries. In that unregulated space, there are no rules to prevent bad actors from making and selling potentially toxic products.

Know Your Grower
With delta-8, you must make sure you know your processor or buy from a reputable source. Whether it’s inhaling harmful contaminants, buying a product with no actual delta-8 THC, or being mixed with a foreign substance, or getting a high that’s far stronger than expected, there’s a lot to consider when buying any cannabis products.

Know Your Product
Delta-8-THC is a minor cannabinoid, occurring in cannabis in very small concentrations.

Delta-8-THC is also a degraded form of Delta-9-THC. When THC is stored for a long period of time, it degrades into delta-8-THC.

Delta-8-THC is an analog of THC and has a similar molecular structure with a few notable differences.

While the two share many similar properties, such as reportedly stimulating appetite, reducing nausea, and soothing pain, delta-8-THC tends to exhibit a lower psychotropic potency than THC when inhaled. However, when ingested, delta-8-THC can deliver the same intoxicating effects as THC

Be mindful when trying delta-8-THC edibles for the first time and use the same caution you would with CBD edibles.

Currently, the legality of delta-8 is hazy, but when extracted from hemp, its legal in Florida, and many other states as well. The 2018 farm bill notes hemp can be legally grown and used for extractions all over the United States, making delta-8 legal in states where delta-9 THC is illegal.

For all my wellness needs, I still take my CBD oil in high doses daily, but also adding some Delta-8 on days when stress is on my mind, and I know that sleep isn't going to come easily has helped me to feel so much better mentally.

It’s truly a gift of nature.
